St. Francois County Speedway race report 2001-04-21

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- (April 21, 2001) Timmy Montgomery of Fredericktown picked up his second feature checkered flag in three weeks at the St. Francois County Raceway as he once again held off his brother Joey Montgomery for the win. Lee Dunn, driving for Keith Burch in the #24 car, finished in third place with Tommy Worley Jr. taking fourth and Terry Babb fifth. They were followed by Bobby Hawks, Steve Short, Bob Burkle, Steve Zelch Jr., and Travis Mize.

Joey Montgomery won the first heat race with Worley Jr. second and Dunn third. Tim Montgomery won the second heat with Burkle second and Jason Keith third. Dean Adams Jr. won the third heat with Zelch Jr. second. Joey Montgomery won the dash with Tim Montgomery second and Adams Jr. third. Paul Patterson won the "B" main with Short second and Mize third. For the first time this season the 600cc Multis paid a visit to the raceway and Casey Barnhouse of Farmington came away as the opening night feature winner.

"I loved the track it's big and fast," Barnhouse said. "I like it where you can hold it wide open." Barnhouse and Timmy Moss of Fredericktown frequently battle each other at the Doe Run Raceway for the top spot and on Saturday the rivalry continued at SFCR.

"Same ole, same ole with Timmy," Barnhouse said. "I'm use to racing hard with him, he's real tough," Barnhouse was able to hold off Moss in the feature with Moss taking second, Derek O'Dell third, Tony Roney fourth and Todd Mecey fifth. They were followed by Steve Harris, Eric Giessing, Kent Buckley, Lance McKinney and Rob Larsen.

Barnhouse won the first heat with Moss second. O'Dell won the second heat with Mecey second. Moss won the trophy dash with Barnhouse second. The Multi's next appearance at SFCR will be on May 19th.

In the Hobby Stock class, Karl Francis of Fredericktown picked up his first feature win of the season. Francis held off the challenge of Randy Forster for the win with Doug Savage taking third, Kasey Nations fourth and Chris Boyd fifth. They were followed by Kenny Harris, Danny Resinger, Jeremy Greenwalt, Billy Mayberry and Gene Kay.

Boyd won the first heat with Forster second and Harris third. Nations won the second heat with Resinger second and Savage third. Brad Mashek won the third heat with Francis second and Greenwalt third. Forster won the trophy dash with Boyd second and Francis third. Leo Kiefer was the "B" main winner with Mayberry second and Kevin Mosier third.

In the Modified class, Brent Thompson continued his dominance of the class in the early going by winning his third consecutive feature in as many weeks. Mike Crader captured second place with Randy Forster third, Billy "the Kid" Smith fourth and Keith Ruff fifth. They were followed by Bob Waterhouse, Matt Zimmerly, Kevin Gegg, Nathan Higgins and Jeremy Stevens. Waterhouse won the first heat race with Greg Gross second. Thompson won the second heat with Jim Brayton Sr. taking second. Smith won the third heat (on his first night out in the modified) with Butch Lyons second. Gross won the trophy dash with Waterhouse second. Forster won the "B" main with Zimmerly earning second place.

This Saturday night at SFCR it is Firefighters Night with all area firefighters being admitted to the main grandstand area of the track free. It is also Farmington Building Supply Night at the track.
