Zoechling enjoys great Speedcar season debut
Austrian Christopher Zoechling proved at the Speedcar season opener at the Dubai Autodrome that he is currently his homeland's greatest racing talent.
In qualifying the 20-year-old outdistanced team mate, former F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve, clearly finishing third on the gird in the session. At the start of race one, Christopher overtook Heinz-Harald Frentzen moving up to second and battling for the lead, when he was spun off the track by Italian Gianni Morbidelli. "His move was pretty unnecessary and sad, because I would certainly have made onto the podium. But that's racing and I have to look ahead", the Dubai-based youngster appeared pretty cool.
However, Zoechling will have to wait longer to take revenge, as the second run was cancelled following torrential rainfall, untypical for the Gulf Emirate. "It's disappointing that we cannot drive today, because I felt great and wanted to attack once more."
Nonetheless, the Austrian will get the opportunity to do so at the next Speedcar racing weekend on January 23/24 in Bahrain. "Christopher showed what he is capable of. Finishing on the podium would have been the icing on the cake, but everybody knows now, how strong he is. He will definitely his chance", Durango team boss Ivone Pinton is certain.
Until the next races in Bahrain Zoechling will "continue to train at the gym, study the Sakhir track on the simulator and continue my classes at university."
