VERNON, NY - The new Slingshot division at the New Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon will begin its second season in 2001 with some changes, including an enlarged track surface.

The Slingshots are coming off a very successful first season, culminating in the crowning of Jackie Botindari and A.J. Kingsley as the first Track Champions. Recently, track owner/promoter Eric Kingsley decided that during the off-season he would make the track bigger for the 2001 season.

"We received a lot of input this year, and most everyone felt that we should make the track bigger," said Kingsley. "We're going to make the straightaways 80 feet longer and add some banking to the turns."

Speedway management feels this is in the best interest of the competitors and should make the racing more fast and exciting for 2001.

Another change will be that the Slingshot heat races will begin at 5:45pm. At 6pm, Utica-Rome will roll into its regular program of qualifying races for the DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks.
