Pendleton (IN) February 14, 2003 - Action Performance Companies Inc., the world leader in motorsports collectibles and merchandising, has begun a business relationship with the American Speed Association and its ASA Racing Series. It marks the first time ASA and Action Performance have formally established an effort to market and promote America's premier short track stock car series.
The Action Performance list of corporate sponsor involvement is a virtual who's who of major American corporations. The company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and leverages a powerful portfolio of official licenses in the motorsports industry.
"Action (Performance) and ASA have determined that a working relationship between the two organizations can be of a business and financial benefit to both," said Rob Albright, Action Vice President for the ASA program. "Mainly I perceive myself as a member of the ASA team although I'm officially on Action's payroll. I hope to work closely with ASA to develop and cultivate relationships with prospective sponsors and marketing partners, not only for the series, but also for the drivers and teams as well."
Albright began work in the Indiana-based ASA offices in early February. "We are certainly looking to sell product but it's also about building relationships with drivers and owners in the series," said the Indiana native. "In some respects I'm looking to create linkage between ASA and teams in the major leagues of stock car racing."
ASA has long established a reputation as a feeder system or training ground for eventual success and stardom in the highest levels of the sport. There have been numerous drivers and crewmembers that have become nationally prominent with their success in stock car racing. "I'm hoping to help develop a formal pathway to supplant the informal one that has already existed," said Albright, who served as business manager for 1993 ASA National Champion Johnny Benson from 1996-2003. "I think the timing is excellent for this type of program with the new ASA ownership, although Steve Dale has been successful in keeping a number of the quality folks who have been with the organization for a number of years."
