ASA TITLE CHASE TAKES A HIT FOR DRIVER SENNEKER

October 6, "Midwest 300" Salem (IN) Speedway

Finished: 23rd Started: 9th (17.316, 112.266 mph)

A beautiful autumn day was the setting for return of the ASA series to the Salem Speedway in southern Indiana for the running of the Midwest 300. The Senneker Motorsports crew was anticipating a good run to get back in the points battle. After starting 9th in the 31 car field, Bob fell to 13th by lap 33. At lap 55, Bob radioed the crew that he dropped a cylinder, within the next few laps, the first caution flag flew. Bob came to the service of the crew for right side tires and fuel. On the next lap around he came back into the pits and the hood went up on the Ford, looking for a loose plug wire, which would explain the loss of one cylinder, when Bob went back onto the track the car was firing on all 6 cylinders and the crew did an awesome job of getting the winningest driver out without losing a lap. The green flag flew at lap 62 with Bob running 16th, Bob radioed the crew that the car was still "loose" by lap 77 he was 15th, 14th by lap 81, 13th by lap 111, 12th at lap 118, 11th at lap 133, 10th at lap 134, 9th at lap 118. The 2nd caution flew at lap 138 while Bob was running 8th, he pitted for rear tires and made some adjustments, when he returned to the field he was running 10th. The green flag came out at lap 156 with 26 cars still running , he was 9th by lap 163, 8th by lap 174. The 3rd caution came out at lap 179, Bob pitted for right side tires and fuel and returned to the track running 7th, 10 cars were still on the lead lap, Bob said he was "just trying to beat the race track". The green flag flew at lap 186, he slipped to 8th at lap 202, he was trying to pass Joe Nott for 7th and trying to hold off Dave Sensiba, who was 2 laps down, when on lap 230 Bob got loose coming off turn 4, as he corrected the car Sensiba tried to pass on the high side and the two came together crashing down the front stretch, Senneker's and Sensiba's day had ended, but Senneker had realistically saw his title hopes crash as well, "I guess they (Raines and St. Amant) won't here our footsteps no more", Bob said of his pursuit to close in on the other title contenders. "This is a tough old racetrack and passing is at a premium, the car got loose, I saved it, then got hit from behind", Senneker said. "We'll fix it and come back next week. We just have to try and minimize the damage done in the points chase". Bob fell from 3rd to 4th in the ASA points. Tony Raines won the event over Steve Holzhausen, Joe Nott, Kevin Cywinski and 5th Mike Miller; 6th to 10th were Tony Roper, Bill Baird. Tim Sauter, Yale Conley and Jack Landis. The next event is scheduled for October 13 at Jennerstown(PA) Speedway for the Jennerstown 400, the race will be televised live at 2pm (edt) on PRIME Sports (PASS in Michigan).
