SUSSEX, Wisc. - Ricky Johnson and the Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team are pumped heading into the ASA ACDelco Series race at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this weekend. Following their second place run at Louisville, Johnson and the team know their first win is right around the corner and Saturday's WorldBestBuy.com 250 could be the race.
"We had a great race at Louisville last weekend," Johnson said. "We almost won our first race and it's a great feeling to know we're in contention each week to win. I'm looking to running strong again this weekend at Cedar Rapids. It's a great racetrack for the ASA cars."
Johnson competed at the half-mile facility two times last year, as Hawkeye Downs Speedway is the only track featured twice on the ASA Schedule. Both times, Johnson finished in the top-10 while competing for the 1999 Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year title.
"We ran consistently there last year and I know the experience will benefit me this year," said the driver of the No. 22 Herzog Motorsports Monte Carlo. "We're looking for our first win. I'd like to be able to pull it off this weekend for our associate sponsor, WorldBestBuy.com, who is sponsoring the race."
Johnson was able to move up into sixth position in the 2000 ASA National Points Standings after Louisville last weekend. Ricky Johnson is 181 points out of first place after racking up four top-10 finishes and one pole position in the first six events.
