CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Ricky Johnson finished 19th in the WorldBestBuy.com 250 from Hawkeye Downs Speedway on Saturday afternoon. One week after his thrilling finish at Louisville, Johnson and the Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team thought this might be their week, but mechanical difficulties proved them otherwise.
"We had a frustrating day," Johnson said. "Something went wrong and it seemed to affect the performance of the motor. We haven't had any problems with our Vortec engines, so I'm not sure what happened."
"The chassis was working well," Johnson said. "The pit stops went great. We managed to stay out of trouble and finish, which was our objective."
Said co-owner Stan Herzog, "Our main objective is the championship and we are still in the hunt for that. Rollie (Christman, crew chief) and the team will get everything sorted out for next weekend. I-70 is a big race for both us and Nationwide Auction Systems and we're looking for that first win."
After starting 23rd, Johnson was able to collect his fifth top-20 finish of the year in the No. 22 Herzog Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Although he dropped to seventh in the ASA Series' National Points Standings, Johnson is only 90 points behind second place.
