DESOTO, Mo. -- (March 9, 2003) Final preparations for the start of the 2003 racing season were addressed by members of the Racing Association of Mini Stocks (RAMS) Sunday night with one of the biggest items discussed and approved was a change in the minimum age requirement.
"After talking things over with Mel Kinnaird (of Montgomery County Speedway), Jerry Wolsey (Auto Tire & Parts/NAPA Racepark) and other area promoters, we discovered the minimum age requirement due to insurance reasons is now 14," said RAMS President Jeff Mills. "The last thing we want is for one of our drivers and their families to run into a problem once they get their vehicles constructed, so tonight we increased our age limit from 13 to 14 to meet those guidelines."
RAMS drivers must also now sign a acknowledgement and release form prior to participating in any RAMS race during the 2003 season.
A change in the 2003 RAMS Points Series schedule was also announced by Mills.
"St. Francois County Raceway promoter Larry Minkel contacted me and informed me there was a conflict in the schedule and he wanted to know if we would move our regularly scheduled date of Saturday, Aug. 23, to Saturday, July 12," Mills said. "The move was great for us and our schedule so we were more than happy to make the adjustment."
The change also allowed for another possible RAMS Points Series race to be added to the now open Aug. 23 slot. Members discussed the issue and decided to purse an additional night of racing at either Montgomery County or Auto Tire & Parts/NAPA Racepark.
RAMS members approved a change in the Point Series for the upcoming season and beyond where participating members must participate in at least 1/2 of the total number of races that season.
In other items, members approved the purchase of a new banner for the group to display during special events such as car shows and RAMS Point Series races. They also approved purchasing embroidered patches for use on driver's suits, hats, shirts and jackets.
All of the issues on Sunday night were passed unanimously. The next RAMS meeting is set for 6 p.m., Sunday, April 6, at the Southfork Restaurant in Desloge. For more information on the RAMS visit their website at: www.jeff.mills.tripod.com/ramsofsoutheastmissouri.
