SUSSEX, Wis. (February 14, 2001) -- Toby Porter, the latest talented young driver to join the ranks of Herzog Motorsports, will begin his American Speed Association (ASA) career this weekend at the St. Augustine (Fla.) Speedway. As the big stars of stock car racing spin their wheels at Daytona, the ASA ACDelco Series will make its debut at St. Augustine's half-mile oval this Saturday night with the running of the ASARacing.com 300.
While the ASA Series is new to Porter, the St. Augustine facility is not. "It's good to return to a track where I have already competed and where I ran so well," Porter said. "St. Augustine Speedway is a nice facility and I am comfortable with starting my ASA career here. We tested well and I feel we have as good of chance as anyone to win the race." Porter has previously competed at the St. Augustine Speedway in 1999 Hooters Pro Cup competition, where he sat on the pole and finished second in the race.
Porter's experience at the track not only benefits himself, but also his Herzog Motorsports teammate Mark Dismore, Jr., who will be driving the No. 22 Herzog Motorsports entry. "Mark has helped me to learn how to handle the Monte Carlos and I have told him about the St. Augustine track," Porter said.
Toby Porter hopes that St. Augustine will be one track of many where he brings the No. 44 Chevrolet Monte Carlo to the checkered flag first. Porter will run a limited schedule in both the ASA and NASCAR Busch Series in preparation for a full NASCAR Busch season with Herzog Motorsports in 2002.
Herzog Motorsports is a successful, championship-winning race team. Based in Charlotte, N.C., Milwaukee, Wis. and St. Joseph, Mo., Herzog Motorsports fields teams in the American Speed Association and the NASCAR Busch Series.
Toby Porter and the No. 44 Herzog Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo will make their run for the checkered flag at St. Augustine Speedway this Saturday. The green flag will drop on the ASARacing.com 300 at 9:00 p.m. EST and will be televised live on TNN (The National Network).
