LAS VEGAS - With the 2000 season in full swing, drivers are fighting to grab the points lead at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's half-mile dirt oval.

The IMCA Modified division features fast-paced open-wheel racing and one of the closest points battles at the speedway. This weekend Jim Perkins will try to maintain his narrow three-point lead over Dan Fitzgerald in the season standings.

In the new IMCA Late Model division, Mike Fitch will attempt to increase his seven-point lead over Jim Wulfenstein. Fitch won the last race, which was held Memorial Day weekend.

In the Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends division, Kyle Busch will make an effort to pad his four-point lead over Sonny Wahl. Busch also is leading the Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends points at LVMS' 3/8-mile paved oval.

In the entry-level Thunder Stox class, Chris Bray needs 19 points to catch points leader Steve Taylor.

Spectator gates open at 6 p.m. Saturday with heat races starting at 7:30. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and military, $2 for children 6-12 and free for children five and under. The Family Four Pack is $25.
