Hazleton, PA. . . . Pocono Mountain Speedway, St. John's, PA celebrated its first season of racing by honoring the competitors for their accolades during the 2000 season. Lobitz Catering Hall, Hazleton PA, which was pushing maximum capacity, hosted the gala event, Saturday night, November 11, 2000. The first time Pocono Mountain Speedway Champions honored were Russ Frantz (Modifieds), Barry Gommer (Late Models), Bruce Long (Street Stocks), Frank Greco (Pro Stock) and Paul Monkoski (Factory Stocks). Rounding out the top five in point standings for the Modifieds was John Markovic, Brian DeFebo, Tim Santee and Ike Iddings; Late Models: Barry Callavini, Mike Radocha Sr., Todd Cooper and Dean Kline; Street Stocks: Rich Spaide, Donny Hartzell, Mike Kowalczuk and Chris Burge; Pro Stocks: Alan Decker, Mike Higgins, Bradley Brown and Joe Hoffman; Factory Stocks: Jim Ciampi, Mark Dispirito, Mark Corbisiero and Steve Distler. Pocono Mountain Speedway's owner, Joe Callavini, expects to build on the successes and learn from the mistakes during the 2000 season to continue to make Pocono Mountain Speedway the best possible track for fans and competitors. Look for news over the winter months on the great things happening for the 2001. In addition to the Saturday night Show Awards, Pocono Mountain Speedway recognized the efforts of the Sunday Racing Program Competitors. Champions crowned were Josh Labatch (JR Caged), Lars Jensen (425 Adult Cage), Dan Horsby (375 Adult Cage), John Joseph Sr. (Star Champ), Dan Horsby (Mod Micro Stock), Scott Barbers (Sportsman Micro), John Hoffman (Medium Stock), Alex Kubilus (Jr. Micro Stock), Pat Koller (Stock Light) and Ricky Ross (Rookie Caged Kart). Checkered Flag Fan Club Representative Jen Bachman presented the employee of the year award to JoAnn Scherer.
