Spring Run, PA_ "It's a driver's track and low is slow tonight," said Dave Dunkle of Spring Run after a close win in the V-8 Strictly Stocks.

Ricky Rosenberry of Willow Hill edged out Bob Elbin of Everett for the Six-Cylinder win and Bruce Ginther Jr. of Lebanon took his second checkered flag in the Four-Cylinder feature. Carlos 'Sharkey' Morgan beat Jimmy Staton in the Cyclones.

After action-packed warm-ups and heat races, Dale Byers in #37 led the V-8 cars from the pole through the first 15 laps. Dunkle caught up on lap nine but his attempts to pass on the inside were rejected, so on lap 15 he overtook Byers down the backstretch and passed in the outside groove through turns three and four. Jerry Fleming took over second place with a lap to go and third through fifth were Byers, David Kitzmiller and Joe Daywalt.

The evening's closest thriller was a wheel-to-wheel clash between Ricky Rosenberry and Bob Elbin in the Six-Cylinder feature. Elbin led the first four laps, but Rosenberry caught up on lap five and the pair raced side-by-side or bumper-to-bumper amid lapped cars until lap 18 when Rosenberry gave up trying to pass Elbin on the outside and went to the inside of turn three. Then Rosenberry put a lapped car between his own #61 and Elbin's #48.

"I love close racing with a good driver," Rosenberry said in victory lane. Rosenberry, Elbin, Josh Walstrum, Robert Weist and Andy Krause Jr. were the front five finishers.

Bruce Ginther Jr. said the Lord helped him find a safe line amid lapped cars as he led every lap but one of the Four-Cylinder feature, passing the first car at the rear of the 22-car field on lap six. Two lap ten cautions regrouped the field and Wilbert Barker took the lead but Ginther went to the inside to end lap 11 and emerged from turn two with the lead again. Ginther, Barker, Denny Schofield, Mark Campbell, and Dave Strait made up the front five.

The Strictly Stock cars and Cyclones return to the Path Valley track August 7. Only the regular kart and four-wheeler racing is scheduled July 31, but the regular classes of sprints and stock cars race every Friday night. Gates open for evening races at 5, and at 10 a.m. for daytime events.
