Pensinger makes win look easy in Path Valley Enduro
Spring Run, PA_ Charlie Pensinger made the Enduro Saturday at Path Valley Speedway Park look like a Sunday drive as he wove among lapped cars. The young Carlisle racer took the lead from pole sitter Gene Wrightstone and led all the way, lapping the slowest cars on lap six.
The race went non-stop start to finish and Pensinger said in victory lane that the extremely smooth track and the steep Path Valley banks made the racing "a whole lot of fun!" He said it was his first win in Enduro cars. He has been racing two seasons and his previous best was a second place finish at Hagerstown but he had finished in the top ten in six of seven previous races.
Following the main event, Jeff Bennett of Chambersburg won the mechanic's race and spun a smoking donut on the front stretch. "I always wanted to do that," referring to the burnout rather than the win, the occasional racer told on-track announcer Walt Cox. "We want to all thank Path Valley for getting the show in with the weather looking so bad."
The top three finishers in the Enduro were Pensinger, Randy Swartz who started eighth and Wrightstone, and they were all on the lead lap at the finish!
The next special event for stock cars at Path Valley is the August 17 Junk Car Race with the Vintage Cars as the support class. The 'guardrail cars' race in four, six and V-8 classes and typical features are 30 laps. This is a development class for those who want to try out circle track racing at minimal cost. Rules are available on the Path Valley website.
August 23 Path Valley hosts a special Friday night exhibition race for four-cylinder Junk Cars as part of the regular Friday night sprint, stock car and Legends races.
