Oswego, NY - Get ready to rediscover the excitement of short track racing at its best when Oswego Speedway opens Saturday, May 12. The 51st season of racing at the famed Port City oval begins with the annual Coca-Cola Kickoff for supers, limited supers and super stocks. Full fields pre-entered in all three divisions and early warm weather lends promise to having a great race year! The last five years, rain has affected the opener, but hope is in the air that this year will break that tradition. Just in case, however, a rain date has been scheduled for Saturday, May 19.
Greg Furlong, defending Oswego Speedway champion, is poised and ready to fend off the challenges of the likes of Tim Gareau, Bob Goutermout, Mike Ordway, Tim Snyder, Todd Stowell, Dan Soule, Jerry Curran, Jamie Letcher, Dave Trytek, Bobby Bond, Tim Proud and newcomers Jeff Holbrook and Keith Gilliam. Gilliam's move to the supermodifieds leaves the 2001 limited title up for grabs and there are plenty of takers returning in that division's tenth year of competition.
Gates for Saturday's racing open at 4 pm with the first heat of the season flagged off at 6 pm. Adults general admission is only $12.00, students and senior citizens, $10 and children $2.00. There's a special discount, however, if you have a Price Chopper AdvantEdge card. Just show the card anytime during the season - excluding Classic Weekend and Race of Champions Weekend - and you can receive a $2.00 discount off an adult general admission grandstand ticket. That means any adult theoretically can save approximately $30 during the season just by having a Price Chopper AdvantEdge card and attending all the races up until Classic time. That's quite a deal for all the excitement of some of the finest racing around.
Don't miss a moment of this 51st race season. It should be another special one. For further information call the Oswego Speedway office 315-342-0646 weekdays or race day.
