Ontario Pro Challenge Series - Thomson extends streak at Mosport!
Thomson leads the show at 'fan appreciation' night
MOSPORT, ONTARIO -- DriveFit, Young Drivers of Canada Ford Taurus driver Dennis Thomson started the feature in third and quickly worked his way to the front to capture his fourth consecutive feature in a row. "The DriveFit, Young Drivers of Canada Ford Taurus was good tonight -- a little loose, but still good enough to get to the front," Thomson said of his second win of the year at Mosport Speedway. This one was in front of a huge crowd, as it was the annual 'fan appreciation' night at Mosport Speedway. The win - Thomson's fifth of the year -- gives him a 70 point lead over second place.
Woodside kept his second place streak in tact, as he came home second for the third race in a row. "It's a great finish for us -- our third second in a row," Woodside said. "It was exciting running three wide, and now I am looking forward to Peterborough in two weeks." Peterborough Speedway provided the Melitta Canada driver with a win last year.
Third in the feature was www.apprenticesearch.com Dodge driver, and current Rookie of the Year leader Tim Norris. Norris has consistently moved up the order since signing his new marketing partnership with apprenticesearch.com, and he was happy with the third at Mosport. "This ties our best finish of the year, and I am happy to have the apprenticesearch.com Dodge leading the Rookie championship."
Fourth in the feature was International Truck and Engine Pontiac Grand Prix driver Ken Nicholson. Behind Nicholson came Rookie Robert Wickens in his Shift/Cameron Motorsports Ford Taurus and Danielle Wilson in her Da-Lite Monte Carlo. Working hard for a seventh was the O'Conner Dodge of Kevin Crowhurst, which suffered severe front end damage from contact with Ken Nicholson's International Truck and Engine Pontiac. "Josh [Nicholson] spun, Ken checked up, and I was right on his bumper -- at full throttle, bang!" Crowhurst said. Eighth and last car running was the NU-GRO Wipe-Out Dodge of Josh Nicholson.
The CARSTAR Monte Carlo of Russ Bond was scored ninth, even though he failed to complete a lap of green flag racing, when a mechanical problem sent him down pit lane on the opening lap. Bond won the only heat race of the night.
