Pauch In Command At New Egypt Speedway
New Egypt, NJ (April 24) -- Frenchtown, NJ's Billy Pauch scored his third Modified feature win of the season in commanding fashion at the New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night. Pauch swept the night, winning his heat, the $2,500 feature money, as well as the Cash Dash, which was worth an additional $476.
"The track was great -- it was real smooth," Pauch told the crowd in Victory Lane. "It takes a couple of laps to build momentum on the top and I knew Kenny Brightbill would just slide under me on that last lap restart, so I went to the bottom."
Gary Butler was the early leader with Pauch making his way to the front on the outside. Once in front, Pauch quickly opened a sizable lead until a last lap caution put Brightbill on his bumper. Pauch stayed low on the final lap for the win. Brightbill came back from an early race spin to finish second, followed by Butler, Eddie Bohn and Bob Drayton.
Mt. Laurel, NJ's Bob Worthington took the lead in the late stages of the Sportsman feature en route to his first win of the season. Mickey Kessler, Rich Scagliotta, Rocco Infante and Ron John Koczon trailed Worthington at the finish.
The Street Stock event produced another first time winner this season -- Pat Freiberger of Allentown, NJ. A wild run to the checker found George Quinlan finishing second followed by Kenny Guyer, Billy Bauer and Mick Search.
The Rookie Sportsman feature was won by Freehold, NJ's Scott Reid, scoring his career first victory. John Dixon, Tim Burke, Tom Tomasko and John Scheideler completed the top five.
A total 128 cars competed in the night's events.
One lucky fan collected $1,800 in the nightly 50/50 drawing. Generous fans donated $776 to benefit Ace Ambulance Service, whose building burned down during the week.
Next Saturday night, May 1, will feature Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookies, with Pit Stop Tire Service awarding McCreary jackets to all feature winners. Gates open at 3 p.m. with warm-ups at 4:30 and the first heat at 5:30. Adult admission is $12. Children 7-12 are $4, and 6 and under are free.
