A Brightbill Sweep on Herr’s Night At New Egypt
New Egypt, NJ (May 22) -- With 4 time feature winner Billy Pauch giving chase to the checkered flag, Sinking Spring, PA’s Kenny Brightbill was up to the challenge as he led the field to the finish line for the victory on Herr’s Snack Food Night at the New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night.
“The IMI/Tabloid Graphics car worked well tonight,” Brightbill related from Victory Lane. “My top groove was going away but it held out long enough.”
Kenny Wismer III led the charge at the start as Brightbill and Pauch began making their way to the front of the field. Lap after lap the two hotshoes raced through traffic with Brightbill moving out in front of Wismer on a Lap 8 restart. As Brightbill, who had started 17th, began to check out on the competition, Pauch challenged Wismer for the runner-up spot and took that position on Lap 12. Brightbill remained out in front with Pauch giving chase. In the closing laps Pauch tried an inside run which was negated by lapped traffic. With a restart on the final circuit, Pauch kept Brightbill in his sights and attempted an inside run in the fourth turn; however, Brightbill held off his challenge to take his third checkered flag of the year. Behind Brightbill and Pauch at the line were Roger Laureno, Mark Bitner, and Tim Tanner Jr.
It was a Brightbill night at the track as Keith Brightbill also claimed his third win of ‘99 when he led the Sportsman field to the checkered in their 20 lap main event. “I’ve got to thank the Grosso family - the track was great tonight,” Brightbill told the crowd. Making up the top five behind Brightbill were Jack Swain, Larry Lippincott, Jim Dallett and Ron John Koczon.
Coming from 14th on the starting grid to the lead in just three laps, Flemington, NJ’s Billy Bauer used a smooth driving style to master the field for his first career Street Stock feature win. “I’ve got to thank Larry McVay and everyone from McVay Racing and all of my sponsors,” said the very happy driver. Bauer led Kory Fleming, Jeff Carpenter, Richie Byrne and Bill Bauma to the finish line.
In Rookie Sportsman feature action, points leader Scott Reid scored his fourth win of the ‘99 campaign. Trailing Reid to the checkered flag were Pat McBride, Tom Tomasko, Darren Cox and Joe Szwed.
The nightly 50/50 drawing paid $1,427.00 to one lucky spectator. Al Cheney took home $418 in the exciting Street Stock Dash For Cash.
Next Saturday night, May 29, the Modifieds will headline the Memorial Day Weekend Special with a 50 lap main event. Joining them on the card will be the Sportsman, Street Stocks and the Rookies. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with warm-ups at 5pm and the first heat at 6pm. Adult admission is $16, children 7-12 are $5, 6 and under are free.
