Qualifying
Formula Ford star Johan Fourie flew the flag for the locals as he put his MD Transport Ford Thunderbird on pole at Killarney in Capetown on Friday 26 October. His time of 1:16.884 (95.103 miles per hour) was the only time under 1:17 on the 2.03 mile road course.

Fourie credited local knowledge and his international racing experience (British Formula Ford championship) for his performance. Local knowledge was obviously an assett as Jean-Jacques Maree put his car in second place. Peter Lindenberg qualified third followed by Ben Morgenrood, unusually far back following gearbox problems. Behind him was George Fouche and oval winner Kosie Swanepoel.

Debutant doubles up at Killarney races

Race 1
Johan Fourie continued his qualifying form when he beat all comers to win both heats of the Killarney SASCAR races in front of a big crowd. Then he promised to go even faster in future.

George Fouche took the series lead by finishing second on the day's combined results (2nd and 3rd in the two heats) after a fight with Lindenberg team mates Peter Lindenberg and Kosie Swanepoel.

The unfortunate Jean Jacques Maree gave Fourie a good battle until a pace car period near the end of the race, when he overtook the leader before the green came. The resultant penalty dropped him from 2nd to 11th

Race 2
Race 2 was again won by the 22 year old Fourie. This time round he was chased by Swanepoel until the latter spun out, with the battling Fouche and Lindenberg then fighting it out for second place, a battle eventually won by Fouche.

Behind Lindenberg, Ben Morgenrood fought his way to 4th from the back after an offroad excursion in race one. Neville Rossouw brought his car, which had been damaged in an altercation with Marthinus Briers in the first heat, into 5th, followed by Maree, who had to fight his way back to the front after his clash with officialdom in the first race.
