American Speed Association Paves the Way for Brenden on Midwest Tour
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (January 25, 2007) -- The American Speed Association Midwest Tour presented by Echo is pleased to announce the signing of 17-year-old Lane Brenden of Mitchell, South Dakota, as a registered contender for the 2007 championship season.
The Rookie of the Year contender stated, "We believe this is a good step towards the next level of racing. Any time we move up it is a challenge for me, the crew, sponsors and everyone involved to be successful."
Brenden is a third-generation racer competing most recently in 690 HP 360 Winged Sprint Cars. He competed in 32 events in 2006 primarily at Lake County Speedway (SD) and Huset's Speedway (SD), recording one A-Feature win and 22 top-ten finishes. He completed the season third place in national NMRA standings.
"The most obvious change for our team is that we are used to racing on dirt tracks and of course the ASA Midwest Tour is all asphalt. The team and I have a lot of learning and growing to do to be successful on this level. We have had class changes before and have always managed the transformation in a short amount of time," Brenden explained with confidence.
Lane has been racing since 2000, when he started in Go Karts and worked his way up to a Hobby Stock in 2003, and eventually strapped into a Sprint Car in 2005. In 2003 he became the youngest driver to win an A-Feature in any class in forty-nine years at Huset's Speedway at age fourteen. Other "youngest" awards to Brenden's credit include the youngest driver to win a Cheater's Day Championship in 2004 and the youngest driver to win a consecutive Cheater's Day Championship the following year; youngest NMRA National Champion (2005); youngest Lake County Speedway Track Champion (2005); 360 Sprint NMRA Rookie of the Year (2005); and 360 Sprint Lake County Speedway Rookie of the Year (2005).
American Speed Association Midwest Tour vice president Steve Einhaus is excited to have the dirt racer join the roster for 2007, stating, "I have been speaking with Lane's father (Rocky Brenden) for the last few months and the family is very determined to get Lane some asphalt experience. It's obvious that this kid has some talent from what I have read and he has great family support. I look forward to seeing him make the transition to asphalt and it will be a great experience for him to run up against the best in the Midwest. We'll see that they get themselves attached to some great people in the industry and help provide them with every bit of guidance that we can."
Lane is eagerly awaiting the release of the Touring Stars roster, saying, "By being a part of the Touring Stars program it will help us with the sponsors, fans, and financial support needed to make a program of this size successful. We have a lot of miles and travel to overcome. By being included in this elite group it would be quite an honor. We believe we can be beneficial in bringing crew, fans, and sponsors to the race tracks and the ASA Midwest Tour."
Brenden is set to graduate Mitchell High School with the class of 2007 this spring and is an avid outdoorsmen, enjoying all types of hunting, fishing, and water sports.
"Hurricane" as he is known locally, is looking particularly forward to the inaugural season opener April 28, 2007 at Elko Speedway (MN). "It will be our first race in this new car and Elko will be similar to our home track because it is close to us and more of my family and friends can make it there and the other tracks in Minnesota to help support our team," Lane said.
