DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 7, 2004) - Continuing a string of announcements, officials from the ASA Racing Member Track program confirmed that Meridian (Idaho) Speedway has rejoined the program and will be "kickin' asphalt" for the 2005 racing season.

"Meridian Speedway is one of Idaho's premier racetracks and the type of facility that the fans of all ages can come to and enjoy a night of extreme family fun," stated Dennis Huth, president of Racing Speed Associates which now owns and operates the ASA Racing Member Track program. "They joined the program in 2004 and felt strongly enough about the benefits that they were among the first racetracks to re-sign for 2005."

The general manager of Meridian Speedway is former Indy Racing League and Indianapolis 500 competitor Davey Hamilton.

"We resigned with the ASA Racing Member Track program for three main reasons," Hamilton stated. "Most importantly, there was no way we could even come close to getting the same type of supplemental insurance that we get through the ASA Racing Member Track program and it is very important to me to know that my racers are being taken care of.

"Secondly, there is a generous points fund for the teams at the end of the season. Finally, the ASA Racing Member Track program is only in its second year and has a long way to grow and we want to grow with them."

Meridian Speedway is located in southwest Idaho, 10 miles east of Boise. Take exit 44 off I-84 then head north for a half-mile on State Route 55. The quarter-mile facility has eight degree banking and will see 21 different classes of cars competing in 2005. Their schedule traditionally runs from April through October. One of the first things that fans visiting the racetrack this year will notice is a brand new scoreboard which will show qualifying times, laps, and the positions of first five cars. In tandem, Meridian Speedway will also be utilizing a new timing and scoring system this year using transponders on each car for a degree of accuracy not seen before at the facility.

"The addition of the scoreboard and timing system will bring a professional atmosphere to the track and provide credibility (of the results) for the drivers and fans," Hamilton said of the improvements.

Tracks and regional touring series that join the ASA Racing Member Track Level I program are eligible to receive contributions to their year-end point fund, marketing assistance, enhanced participant accident insurance, and will be the spot for today's fans to watch the stars of tomorrow learn the trade. Huth indicated that he has other exciting ideas and plans to help take the local racing programs to new levels and to further enhance the coverage of the tracks and series competitors.
