Miller, of Coopersville (Mich.), began his ASA career in 1976, when his only two starts resulted in two top-10 finishes. He won his first ASA Championship in 1987 and, in 1988, successfully defended his crown. Between 1985 and 1989, Miller amassed 28 wins , 23 top-five finishes and 26 poles.
He returned to the series in 1993 after a brief stint in the Winston Cup and Busch Grand National divisions. The 1994 season saw Miller claim his third national championship.

Miller sits third on the all-time career victories list with 39 and is tied with Bob Senneker for the most wins in a s ingle season with the nine races he won in 1987.
Throop Motorsports, owned by LeRoy Throop, returns to the series after sitting out 1999. The team owns three championships, including fielding Miller's cars in '87 and '88. Throop also owned Senneker's '90 championship car. The team fielded cars for Ada m Petty and Dave Sensiba in 1998.
"Myself, Carl Hartman and everyone on the Throop Motorsports team is excited and looking forward to working with Butch," commented Throop. "With the commitment Meijer Stores has made to both the team and Butch, we look forward to a long and lasting relati onship for all of us."
