Fredrickson Wins Yellow Book USA Governor's Cup At Milwaukee Mile
WEST ALLIS, WI (August 29, 2004) - Dan Fredrickson added another feat to his racing resume as he won the Yellow Book USA Midwest Allstar Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Governor's Cup 50 at the historic Milwaukee Mile. Former Series Champion Todd Kluever was back behind the wheel and took off with Charlie Menard in tow from the start. Tenth starting Fredrickson was the driver on the move as he quickly caught up with the front runners. Fredrickson moved into the lead and then pulled away from everyone. A late race charge came up a little short for Erik Fransen as he moved into second and cut into Fredrickson's sizeable lead. The race ran all 50 laps without a caution and that played into Fredrickson's pocket as he took home the win. Fransen ran out of time to catch Fredrickson and had to settle for second, while Menard, Kluever and Adam Royle rounded-out the top five.
"This is our Daytona" said Fredrickson in the post-race press conference. The win was Fredrickson's third MARS victory of the season as the short track specialist had picked up two wins earlier this season in his home state of Minnesota, including the Minnesota Governor's Cup.
Yellow Book USA MARS Late Model Points Leader Jeff VanOudenhoven expanded his lead despite a tenth place finish as runner-up in points Blake Bjorklund slid back from a fourth-place starting spot to finish 23rd in his first ever trip to the Milwaukee Mile.
The Yellow Book USA MARS Late Models final race of the season, The Fall Nationals 150 is scheduled for September 18th and 19th at the I-94 Raceway Raceway in Sauk Centre (MN). For more information, check out www.racingmidwest.com or www.i94raceway.com.
