MADISON, Ill. - Mark Dismore was confident heading into the final ASA ACDelco Series event at the Gateway International Raceway Saturday night. Dismore qualified a career best sixth position and was looking forward to the season finale. Unfortunately, a mechanical failure caused Dismore to finish in 39th place, after completing 52 of the 200 laps. "We tested and qualified well here," Dismore said. "I was real comfortable with the track and I was really confident about tonight's race." On lap 51, while running sixth, Dismore headed into turn one when the problem occurred. "I went to shift into third gear and there wasn't anything there," Dismore explained. "I guess we broke the ring and pinion in the rear end. I feel terrible for the guys on the team, Monster.com, WorldBestBuy.com and the Herzogs. Everyone's been great this year. This was our first mechanical failure of the year, but it's unfortunate to have it happen here while we were running so well." "I wish I could've brought it home for everyone," Dismore said. "The guys have worked hard this year and I feel bad for them. I wanted to really give this Herzog Motorsports team a great finish after the rough year we had." Dismore slipped to 19th in the final ASA Driver Point Standings and finished fifth in the Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year title chase.

The ASA Series will hold their Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, December 9 at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn. to conclude the 2000 season. The 2001 season begins on Saturday, February 17 at the Florida Speed Park in St. Augustine, Fla.
