Scott Leach; Hoping to make an impact in the ASA Late Model Series Northern Division in 2006 despite limited resources.
Lexington, Michigan (01/04/2005): The 2006 season for the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts is getting closer and closer. It's less than 60 days until the ASALMS Southern Division opener, which will christen the entire 2006 campaign for the ASALMS.
Registrations continue to come in every day into the home offices in Lexington, Michigan. New and returning drivers alike are preparing for the 2006 in any and/or all three traveling divisions within the ASALMS. As the registrations come in from some returning drivers, one name comes to mind when thinking about a driver who looks to have a bright future ahead of him in the ASALMS community despite limited appearances and limited resources during the 2005 season. That being, Buckeye State driver, Scott Leach.
For the 2006 season, One Racing with Scott Leach behind the wheel has intentions on running the full schedule of events in the ASALMS Northern Division and go for the 2006 Rookie of the Year title in the North. In order to run the full schedule in the North however, Scott and his team needs to pick up additional sponsorship to run at every event within the ASALMS Northern Division.
"We'd like to run every race in the Northern Schedule and one or two in the Challenge Division as well." Stated the Zanesville, Ohio driver. "For now we'll run weekly at Mansfield (OH) Motorsports Speedway, and hit a few of the Northern Division shows that are close and when we can. I hope we can pick up some sponsorship so we can run the full North schedule for the Rookie title though, that's our ultimate goal heading into the 2006 season." Leach added.
Leach made the most of what he had in his select appearances in 2005 with the ASALMS The Buckeye State pilot appeared in four ASA Late Model Series events, with one getting rained out at Mansfield to keep his rookie eligibility intact for 2006. Despite limited funding, the 19-year-old qualified for each race. In his debut in the ASALMS, Leach set 13th quick time out of 38 machines at the Indianapolis (IN) Raceway Park on July 30, 2005 during the A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Howe Racing Enterprises and Holloway Sportswear.
Leach's limited resources hindered him as accidents and mechanical difficulties throughout his maiden voyages into the ASALMS resulted in his best finish as only a 20th place showing at the Sandusky (OH) Speedway on August 20, 2005 during the Domino's Pizza 100. Leach also made the trip to Jennerstown (PA) Speedway for the Tribune-Democrat 100 a week earlier back on August 13, 2005.
Scott began his racing career in go-karts at just eight years old, during his eight years in Go-Karts, he earned over 400 feature wins, eight Points Championships and was the 2001 Junior Stock National Champion. In 2002, at age 16, Scott moved up and raced a part time schedule in the Limited Sportsman class at the Columbus (OH) Motor Speedway, in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series before a full schedule in 2003.
In only his second full season, Leach, at just 17 years old at the time, was crowned the 2004 Limited Sportsman Track Champion, making him the youngest driver to ever win a championship in history at Columbus. Leach also placed seventh in the NASCAR Heartland Region Short Track Division Standings that same season.
Leach does have limited sponsorship in place for select events in the ASALMS Northern Division as well as at least one televised ASALMS Challenge Division event. In the meantime, Leach plans on running weekly at Mansfield with the limited sponsorship on the side of his Chevrolet Monte Carlo from; Fruehquip Industrial Equipment Company, Southside Rods and Restoration, Zanesville Chevrolet and Cadillac, Dillon Race Cars, and One Racing. Leach's One Racing crew consists of his Dad and Car Owner, Mark Leach as well as Barrett Tamasovich and Nick Lang.
