St. Amant scores pole for Kul Brew 300.

West Salem, Wis. (June 29, 2002) -- Veteran Gary St. Amant of Columbus (OH) posted fast time in Saturday afternoon qualifying for the Kul Brew 300 presented by Jani-King and Tobacco Outlet Plus at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

For St. Amant, his time of 20.032 secs. / 112.320 mph, marks the 26th pole of his ASA career and third of the 2002 ASA Racing Series season.

"We were pretty good in practice, worked on the car a little bit and were confident that we would be able to qualify well here," said St. Amant, a two-time former ASA National Champion. "I give credit to Bill McGowan (crew chief) and the crew as they dialed on the ACDelco car through the day based on how it felt and was performing for me. This (pole) is a great start and I expect more tomorrow."

David Stremme of Indiana and Butch Miller of Michigan both briefly held the provisional pole. The rookie Stremme has finished second in each of the previous two ASA races while Miller has won 44 poles in his legendary career.

"It's a team thing for us as we just have almost all the bases covered," said Stremme, rookie runner-up in point's. "My confidence is gaining a lot with the seat time I'm getting now that we are nearly at the midseason. I tested here and I definitely like this track. It's pretty big and wide and should be a heckuva race."

Rick Beebe of Kansas and Dan Fredrickson of Minnesota rounded out the top-five in qualifying. Wisconsin representatives in the event include Kevin Cywinski of Wausau, Kevin Nuttleman of Bangor, Todd Kluever of Sun Prairie, Chris Wimmer of Wausau, Landry Potter of Genoa City and Chad Wood of Madison.

The Kul Brew 300 presented by Jani-King and Tobacco Outlet Plus will take the green flag at 1 p.m. (Central) on Sunday, June 30. Gates open at 10 a.m. with the on-track fan autograph session featuring Rode Hard and Put up Wet providing musical entertainment.

The race is to be telecast live on TNN (The National Network) at 1 p.m. (Central).
