The 1997 points season at Atomic Speedway begins this Friday night with the double point Twin 35-lap $1,200-to-win Late Model Features, There will also be racing with the Open Wheel Modified, Super Stock, Pure Mini, and Pure Street Bomber divisions on the World's fastest 1/3 mile high banked clay oval.
Top Late Model entries expected include defending Atomic Speedway Champion Patrick Duggan of Lenoir City, six-time track champion Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Randy Weaver of Crossville, Anthony White of Clinton, Terry Shannon of Pilot Mountain, Dave Bilbrey of Crossville, Tommy Kerr of Rockford and brothers Rick and Sam Williams from Crossville.
Drivers will be competing for several thousand dollars in point fund money during the 1997 racing season at Atomic Speedway, and its sister track Crossville Speedway, which will also run double point Twin 35 lap $1,200-to-win features this Saturday night.
Race cars at both tracks will compete exclusively on the new Goodyear Eagle dirt racing tire this season. Goodyear has posted a $30,000 guaranteed combined point fund for the two tracks. Late Model competitors at both tracks will also compete nationally for the United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) Championship and its posted point fund of $57,000.
This Friday night at Atomic Speedway, the pit gates open at 4:00p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 5:00p.m. and racing scheduled for 7:30p.m.. Atomic Speedway is located just west of Knoxville at I-40 and U.S. Highway 321. The race day information line is (423) 986-3589
