Kluever looking for new Crew Chief following Carlson departure
Pendleton, Ind. (June 11, 2003) -- Second-year driver Todd Kluever of Marshall, Wis., and crew chief Bruce Carlson have parted ways effective immediately. They had worked together the initial six events of the 2003 ASA Racing Series season, but decided after the Iowa 300 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, to mutually split.
"We have been struggling with our finishes and setups in the first part of the season," said Kluever. "We both felt it was time to make a change. Our goal is to consistently be in the top five and challenging for victories. I'm not content to be in just the top 10. It's about results."
Driving the No. 55 TK2 Racing Chevrolet with associate sponsorship from Sign- 1-1, Badger Music & Equipment, Marshall Metals, Noar's Tavern and Midwest Bumper to Bumper, Kluever is eighth in the driver point standings. He has racked up four top-10 finishes, after beginning the season with a 29th place effort at USA International Speedway. His best finish took place at Concord Motorsports Park, when he crossed the line in sixth position.
"Bruce and I talked about the change. It was a mutual decision. It wasn't working like the entire team had hoped. We are spending too much money to ride it out for the remainder of the year. I wish Bruce all the best in his future endeavors," added the 2002 Rookie Candidate.
For the immediate, Kluever says that John Hanson will serve as crew chief in their race shop and it will be a committee crew chief effort at events. They are hoping to hire a full-time crew chief.
"We are looking to find somebody. Beginning at I-70, we will run our program like we did at the end of last year. John (Hanson) is my spotter during the race but will be the crew chief during the week. I'm not sure who will be on top of the pit box on during the race."
Kluever and TK2 Racing are looking for a crew chief with ASA experience. Interested parties can either live in Wisconsin and work on daily basis in the shop or serve as crew chief on race day. The team is investigating all of their options. Contact TK2 Racing for additional information at (608) 655-1651.
The seventh event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Saturday, June 14 at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Mo. The Missouri 250 Presented by Jani-King takes the green flag at 9 p.m. (Central) and will be telecast live on SPEED Channel.
