St. Charles, MO (April 25, 2002) UMP Late Model veteran Kevin Gundaker was seriously injured on Wednesday, April 24, when a car broadsided his motorcycle. The accident occurred in St. Charles, MO near the GFR Motorsports shop, where Kevin's UMP Late Models are prepared.
His injuries include a broken leg, which required surgery to insert a rod in the upper half of his leg. He also suffered broken ribs, a bruised liver and internal bleeding. He remains in the ICU at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Charles, MO. However, he is expected to make a full recovery and could be released from the hospital as early as next week.
Kevin finished fourth in the UMP Late Model National Points and had sixteen feature wins in 2001. A regular competitor at the I-55 Raceway in Pevely, MO, Kevin was set for another great season in 2002.
