Vadnais Debuts New Car With 3rd Place Finish At I-94 Raceway

SAUK CENTRE, MN (August 21, 2004) - Josh Vadnais of White Bear Lake debuted a brand new Discount Taxi, Northern Racing Products Chevrolet this weekend at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre. The team arrived early to give the car an initial shakedown and all appeared well. In Qualifying, Josh clocked in third quickest of the 24 cars in attendance with a time of 16.72 seconds, not far behind fast qualifier Dan Fredrickson, who set a new track record with a lap of 16.65 seconds.

With an inversion, Josh started the Jeremy "Tire Guy" Johnson 150 Memorial in the sixth position. Josh moved up quickly to the fourth spot and stayed there as the car slowly developed a push towards the end of the first 100 lap segment. A ten minute break allowed the crew to change tires, add fuel and make a few adjustments prior to rolling back out for the final 50 lap segment. When the race restarted, Josh took the Discount Taxi, Northern Racing Products Chevrolet up to the third position as he moved by Andy Hanson. Dan Fredrickson and Todd Hansen raced wheel-to-wheel for the lead, while Josh kept his car in front of NASCAR Midwest Series driver Bryan Roach. The race for the third spot remained close as Roach would slip by Josh with 30 laps remaining. Josh would hang with him as the laps wound down and with nine laps left, he would reclaim the third spot as Roach fell off and Eugene Dick would step up to challenge. With four laps to go, Dick lost the handle while running next to Josh in turn number one, sending the number 5 car for a spin. Josh slipped by unscathed. During the caution, a thunderstorm moved over the track, dumping heavy rain and forcing race officials to call the 150 lap race complete after 145 laps. Fredrickson was declared the winner, with Hansen second and Josh capping off a great debut for the new car with a third place finish.

Next up for Vadnais race team will be the Yellow Book USA Midwest Allstar Racing Series (MARS) race at the historic Milwaukee Mile on Sunday August 29th.
