PENDLETON, Ind. (February 3, 2004) - After two partial schedules with the ASA National Tour, Minnesota competitor Joey Miller has announced his intentions to compete for the $50,000 Rookie of the Year honors in 2004. Miller will drive a County Joe Racing entry with sponsorship from Great Clips and Country Joe Homes.

"I'm thrilled to have an opportunity to race the full ASA schedule and challenge for the rookie title," said Joey Miller. "The previous two seasons I've gained a lot of knowledge and hope to apply that to our 2004 effort."

Miller, 19, has made 16 starts the previous two seasons, recording two top-10 finishes with a best performance of seventh at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, Wis. He also finished ninth at ASA's inaugural visit to Elko Speedway in 2002.

In 2003, the Lakeville, Minn., competitor turned in impressive qualifying runs, with a second-place effort at the season-opening event at USA International Speedway, fourth at Elko and fifth at Lake Erie Speedway. His best season finish occurred at Berlin Raceway, crossing the line in 12th.

2002 ASA National Tour Championship crew chief Bond Suss will continue to serve that position for Miller in the upcoming season. Last season, Suss made the transition from working with Joey Clanton to a part-time schedule with Miller in ASA and events with other touring series. They made several appearances on larger speedways including the 1.5-mile oval of Kentucky Speedway, the scene of two ASA events in 2004.

"Racing at places like Kentucky and some of the other super speedways in 2003 will be a huge help to this season. Not many rookies have big track experience heading into their rookie season. Also, having available the knowledge of Kevin Cywinski and Bond Suss will be a great asset for me this year. They have both been involved in ASA championships the previous two seasons and are great benefits to Country Joe Racing."

The ASA National Tour begins its 37th season of competition on Saturday, March 27 at the .75-mile oval of USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla. The S K Hand Tool 200 will be televised on SPEED Channel.

The American Speed Association is based in Pendleton, Ind., and has offered stock car racing programs since 1968, including the ASA National Tour, ASA Late Model Series and ASA Member Track programs. For additional information, visit asaracing.com.
