IRWINDALE, Calif. (February 26, 2001) - Fresh off a victory at the American Speed Association (ASA) ACDelco Series season opener in St. Augustine (Fla.), Joey Clanton hopes that he will be able to make his next stop in victory lane in the Tires.com 300 presented by BFGoodrich at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. The Irwindale venue is a new track for Clanton, as well as the American Speed Association. Once considered a Midwest-based series, the ASA has expanded its race territory by making its first trip to the West Coast in the series' 34-year history.
Joey Clanton and Steve Dale Motorsports have had a great opener to their 2001 season. After starting the ASA season opener event in the second position, Clanton quickly took the lead on lap 121 and never moved from that position. Clanton's domination of the track turned the heads of ASA fans and Clanton's fellow competitors. Clanton is hoping for the same commanding performance at Irwindale Speedway.
"None of the teams have been able to test at Irwindale, so we will all be on equal footing. I have only seen the track from pictures, but I have heard that the layout is similar to IRP and Cedar Rapids. We raced well at both of those tracks, so I feel we have a good shot at a strong finish," remarked Clanton.
"We definitely have the advantage right now, coming off our win at St. Augustine. Now people are worried about us, instead of the other way around," stated Clanton. "I have a great team, great crew chief and a great owner to back me, I think we are going to have an awesome run in California." Led by business entrepreneur, and racing enthusiast Steve Dale, Steve Dale Motorsports builds and races highly competitive winning cars. Based in Fayetteville, Ga., Steve Dale Motorsports has teams in both the American Speed Association and Legends Racing series.
Located just 25 minutes from Los Angeles, the Irwindale Speedway is a brand-new half-mile motorsports and entertainment facility. The Tires.com 300 presented by BFGoodrich Tires will take place on March 10th. The green flag will drop at 9 p.m. EST and will be televised live on The National Network (TNN).
