(Elk Mound, WI-- June 21, 2002) Jimmy Mars returned to a pair of his home tracks this past weekend with winning results as the talented dirt late model campaigner picked up a victory at Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, WI on Friday night in the "Mid-Season Championship". Mars started in the fourth row for the feature event and took the Gilberts Chrysler sponsored MasterSbilt Race Car to the checkered flag. The special weekend on home turf for Jimmy Mars Racing saw the Elk Mound, WI native also compete at Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday evening where Mars' efforts resulted in a 3rd place finish. On Tuesday night, Mars headed back onto the United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) schedule in Davenport, IA where Jimmy Mars guided his Pro-Power / MasterSbilt Race Cars backed Chevrolet Monte Carlo to another top-five run with a 5th place finish at Davenport Speedway. The UDTRA event success in Iowa helped Mars maintain his mounting challenge for the National Championship title on the UDTRA circuit. Mars currently stands in 3rd place of the UDTRA National Championship standings as the driver known as"The Ice Man" has garnered 13 top-ten UDTRA runs in just the first 16 of the 40 slated events on the UDTRA tour with 10 top-five runs and 1 win with over half the sanction's season remaining. The non-sanctioned win over the weekend at Red Cedar Speedway was the second major feature of the season for Jimmy Mars.
Mars returns to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI this weekend with an eye on the prize of "The Masters". Mars is a former champion of the 1996 "USA Nationals" at Cedar Lake Speedway. Mars has also charted high-profile national wins in 2001 at both Bristol Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway and won the 1997 Dream race at Eldora Speedway, which yielded a career-high payday of $100,000. Another career biggie for Jimmy Mars came in 2000 when he captured the title at the Batesville (AR) Speedway's 2000"Topless 100". Not all of Mars success has come on America's dirt ovals, as he is a former Rookie of the Year winner on the NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge series as he has displayed his winning form on both asphalt and dirt ovals across the country.
Following this weekend's schedule at Cedar Lake Speedway Mars heads to Dennison, IA next week for the next stop on the UDTRA campaign. Mars competes in the Jimmy Mars Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo sponsored by MasterSbilt Race Cars, T.L. Sinz Plumbing and Weld Wheels.
