(Elk Mound, WI-- June 12, 2002) With the United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) schedule open until next Tuesday night in Davenport, IA Jimmy Mars plans to compete at two of the tracks that gave his racing program a start. Mars will compete in WISSOTA action at Menomonie, WI on Friday night at Red Cedar Speedway and then at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI on Saturday evening. Over the course of the past decade Mars has taken his racing program from that of a regional flavor to becoming one of the most revered young stock car talents in the nation.
Currently Mars is mounting a strong challenge for the National Championship title on the UDTRA trail competing in over 40 sanctions events in 20 states nationally. Outside of the sanctioned UDTRA event schedule Jimmy Mars remains a fast and busy driver with nearly 70 races slated for the entire 2002 season. Thus far Jimmy Mars Racing has registered a consistent string of top-five finishes including a major national victory on the UDTRA trail earlier in the season. Mars currently stands in 3rd place of the UDTRA National Championship standings as the driver known as"The Ice Man" has garnered 12 top-ten UDTRA runs in just the first 15 of the 40 slated events on the UDTRA tour. Even more impressive are Mars' 9 top-five runs and 1 win with over half the sanction's season remaining.
The talented driver from Wisconsin is also a former Rookie of the Year winner on the NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge series as he has displayed his winning form on both asphalt and dirt ovals across the country. Mars is a former champion of the 1997 Dream race at Eldora Speedway which yielded a career-high payday of $100,000 while also capturing titles at the Batesville (AR) Speedway's 2000"Topless 100" and the 1996"USA Nationals" (Cedar Lake Speedway). Mars has also charted high-profile national wins at both Bristol Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.
With the weekend's schedule open on the UDTRA campaign Mars has chosen to compete locally in a chance to race in front of his many fans in the Wisconsin region. Following this weekend's special appearances in Wisconsin Mars swings back into UDTRA competition at Davenport, IA (June18) and Cedar Lake Speedway (June 22). As a part of the trip to"The Masters" at Cedar Lake Speedway, Jimmy Mars Racing will also be gunning for a win in a special Renegade DirtCar Series event Friday, June 21st. In addition, beginning with next Tuesday's UDTRA stop at Davenport, IA Mars will have his sights set on a special $100,000 bonus being offered to any driver who can win 3 of 5 of the upcoming UDTRA and Renegade DirtCar series events.
Mars, who normally competes in the Jimmy Mars Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo sponsored by MasterSbilt Race Cars, T.L. Sinz Plumbing and Weld Wheels, will compete this weekend in the Gilberts Chrysler, MasterSbilt Race Cars late model when he appears at both Red Cedar and Cedar Lake Speedways.
