(May 4) - Officials for the International Pro Stock Challenge (IPSC) are excited to announce the addition of the Snap-on Shootout to their 2000 schedule. The 25-lap race will be run on August 18th at Scotia Speedworld and will feature winners of the Snap-on Tools Time Trial Awards from 1999 competition and to- date on the 2000 tour. The winner will receive cash and awards valued at over $3,000 (CDN).
"We thought this would make a special addition to the IPSC," said Dan Eddy, Regional Manager for Snap-on Tools Atlantic. "It will be a special format for the teams and we plan to get the fans involved, too."
Already on the entry list by virtue of their Snap-on Tools Time Trial Awards in 1999 are: Scott Fraser (Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia), Ben Rowe (Turner, Maine), Mike MacKenzie (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), Louie Mechalides (Tyngsboro, Mass.), and Ralph Nason (Unity, Maine). The race will be the last race on the card Friday, August 18th - qualifying night for the Atlantic CAT 250 - which will be run on Saturday, August 19th.
"It's kind of cool," said MacKenzie. "To be already entered in the Snap-on Shootout takes some of the pressure off for this season. Of course, we'll always being making our best effort to win the Snap-on Tools Time Trial Award."
The Snap-on Tools Time Trial Awards have become a huge part of the IPSC race-day. Racers are taking the competition very seriously as their fast lap (of two) counts in how they start in the qualifying races. Only the 10 fastest times are automatically transferred to the feature race starting grid. Spectators are filling the grandstands to watch the Snap-on Tools Time Trials, realizing what is at stake. Hi-tech timing equipment is used in the competition.
In addition to the Snap-on Shootout and Snap-on Tools Time Trials, Snap-on Tools Atlantic will be presenting sponsor of Driver Introduction and Victory Lane ceremonies. The Snap-on Tools Teamwork Award will see crew members recognized for their hard work at each IPSC event.
Snap-on Tools Atlantic is the Official Tool Supplier of the IPSC.
The season-opener for the IPSC is set for this Saturday, May 6th at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A number of IPSC competitors are expected to be on hand at Scotia Speedworld Friday afternoon participating in a practice session between 2 and 5. Spectators are invited to watch with FREE admission to the grandstand.
The Saturday schedule will see Snap-on Tools Time Trials at 1:30 followed by Motor Mart Heat Races at 3. The grandstand gates open at Noon.
