OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS FOR EDDY - TWICE Halifax, NS (April 24, 1999) - As the start of the 1999 stock car racing season draws near in Atlantic Canada, Dan Eddy is looking forward to an exciting ride with the International Pro Stock Challenge (IPSC) - his enthusiasm only exceeded by his duties - taking on roles as both a competitor and a series sponsor. “Pre-season, we’re helping out all we can in both areas,” said Eddy, who hails from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where he works as the Branch Manager for Snap-on Tools of Atlantic Canada. “Once race-day gets here we’ll be focused 150% on the race car and doing what we have to do to be a contender.” Eddy has chosen the IPSC as his primary focus in ‘99, seeing the series as an opportunity to grow. He and his crew members are burning the midnight oil putting the final touches on their 1999 Ford Quality Care Taurus. “On the track, we’re looking forward to getting better and gaining more experience with the components used in the higher levels of this sport,” said Eddy, who would like to move forward in his racing career. “The cars are faster with the four barrel carburetors and stickier tires. We look at faster as getting better. Add to that the experience we’ve got the opportunity to gain as we race against some of the best short track racers in New England and Canada and we can only be better. Experience being the key. It’s a huge word in racing. “On the business side, we see the IPSC as a perfect match with the demographics of our dealers and customers. We’re always looking for the best possible ways to promote our products. Being affiliated with this series on the ground floor will allow us to grow with them.” Snap-on Tools has taken an aggressive role with the IPSC as sponsor of the Time Trials, Teamwork Award, presenter of the Driver Introduction and Victory Lane ceremonies and in planning hospitality events. “The level of excitement surrounding this series from both the fans and competitors is unlike anything we’ve seen in our 20+ years of racing,” Eddy said. “We really felt like we needed to be involved - on both sides of the fence - literally.” The IPSC season kicks off May 22nd at Oxford Plains Speedway, then visits Scotia Speedworld on June 26th, returning to Oxford for the prestigious True Value 250 at Oxford July 4th, back to Scotia for the next two shows on July 24th and August 28th, and culminating at Oxford, September 11th. With more than $500,000 in purse and awards up for grabs, the IPSC is one of the richest series of its kind in North America. Scotia Speedworld is located across from the Halifax (NS) International Airport on Highway 102, (902) 481-2514. Oxford Plains Speedway is located on Route 26 in Oxford, Maine, (207) 539-8865. Advance tickets are available for both venues by calling their ticket offices.
