"We are very excited to have this finally come together," said Bas Gordon, manager of Scotia Speedworld. "We have been negotiating for almost two months now and feel this is a very positive step for our sports growth. We at Scotia Speedworld are glad to see MASCAR return to our facility and also to enable that series to realize its full potential."

John Chisholm, president of the MASCAR drivers committee that put the deal together agrees that this move is a positive one.

"We felt it was very important that the sponsors, fans and racers have a clear view that there is a unified racing fraternity in this part of the world," said Chisholm.

The Carquest MASCAR Tour will see a 12-race schedule in 2001 with a $ 50,000 point fund guaranteed by Scotia Speedworld. In addition, the racers will enjoy guaranteed race purses throughout the season. Four of the 12 events will be at Scotia Speedworld with the balance of the races to be run throughout the Maritime Provinces.

The IPSC, which will hold 10 races in the Maritimes and New England in 2001, is equally pleased to see the parties come together.

"This is something we have believed for a very long time needed to happen to grow our sport," said Joan Roue, IPSC President. "This is the beginning of a lot of good things for the racing community throughout the Maritimes and New England. We will finally have the chance to see the best teams in all of Northern New England and Eastern Canada compete on the same tracks."

There will be no conflicting race dates as the schedules are set for 2001. Racers and fans can follow one or the other or both. Schedules should be announced in the near future for both series.

"We can finally get to work and finalize schedules, rules and more," said Roue. "A lot has been on hold while we were waiting for this development. We can now move forward - full speed (no pun intended.)"

"We have lots of exciting things planned for MASCAR," said Gordon. "We're very fortunate to have a product as established and respected as the MASCAR name to build on."
