TOOELE, UT (March 19, 2002) -- The western-based Intermountain Late Model Series (ILMS) has pledged the support of their drivers in the newly formed Valvoline Cup grassroots national points championship. ILMS drivers, who qualify for the Paved Late Model class of the Valvoline Cup, will compete against other paved late model drivers that race in both weekly and sanctioned programs all over the country.
The ILMS, since it's founding, has provided high quality, competitive, asphalt late model racing for fans and drivers in Idaho, Utah, and Nevada. ILMS rules are written so that virtually any asphalt late model driver can participate in a sanctioned touring event, as a combination of weight and carburetor rules create an even playing field for regular, and part time competitors.
"We are excited to participate in the Valvoline Cup", stated ILMS President, Jon Procter. "With many of our drivers competing in weekly racing events, in addition to ILMS events, they will have the opportunity to compete against some of the top late model drivers from around the country". In addition to the participation of ILMS drivers in the quest for the Valvoline Cup, fans and competitors at ILMS tracks will also benefit from a string of Valvoline Night promotions. Magic Valley Speedway, Rocky Mountain Raceway, and Meridian Motor Speedway, will play host to Valvoline Night fan and driver promotions. Valvoline Night promotions provide lucky fans and winning competitors with Free Valvoline, Eagle One, Zerex, and Pyroil, products. There are 300 Valvoline Night promotions scheduled for the 2002 race season, across the country.
The Valvoline Cup is only the latest evidence of Valvoline's support of grassroots racers. Valvoline is a contingency sponsor in NHRA drag racing and for the past six years has been the No. 1 choice of motor oil by NHRA sportsmen-class racers at NHRA pro events. For the past 17 years, Valvoline has sponsored the national championships for the Sports Car Club of America, The SCCA Valvoline Runoffs®.
