Sussex, WI - Due to the recent winter storm that blasted the Southeast, Herzog Motorsports' ASA ACDelco Series team has been forced to postpone their pre-season testing at the Lanier National Speedway in Gainesville, Georgia, as well as the Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina. The team, with drivers Ricky Johnson and Mark E. Dismore, had originally planned to test their Chevrolet Monte Carlos at the two facilities on February 1 and 2 and February 4 and 5 respectively.
The tests have been rescheduled to February 14 and 15 at Hickory Motor Speedway, followed by a one-day test at the Lanier National Speedway on February 16.
Howie Lettow, crew chief for the #44 Monster.com Chevrolet driven by Dismore, elaborated on the situation. "The weather down South just didn't want to cooperate for our testing schedule. At least we were forewarned and did not make the journey down there," Lettow said. "With the temperatures being so low, it would be hard to get a good readout on how these cars would perform when we come back for the race, so we decided to wait a couple weeks. I hope the weather will work in our favor next time around."
Although the postponement delays the testing schedule, there is still lots to be done on the #44 Monster.com and #22 Nationwide Auction Systems Chevrolet Monte Carlos to be ready for the 2000 ASA ACDelco Series opener at USA International Speedway in Lakeland. The team is still planning to test at the open ASA test session March 10-13 in Florida.
Recently, both drivers visited the shop and spent a couple days getting to know each other. Johnson was quite complimentary of the 19-year-old Dismore, son of IRL driver Mark A. Dismore. "After meeting with Mark, I was very impressed with his level of maturity at his age and his desire to learn in racing. I am confident he has a great shot for the rookie title in 2000," said Johnson.
Dismore sang Johnson's praises as well. "Rick is a great guy and I am glad to have him as a teammate this year," Dismore said. "We got along very well and he has offered any help he can give me. I am sure I will be asking him for a lot of assistance this year."
Herzog Motorsports is a successful, championship-winning race team. Based in Los Angeles, California; St. Joseph, Missouri; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Herzog Motorsports will again field two teams in the 2000 ASA ACDelco Series with backing from Nationwide Auction Systems and Monster.com.
The ASA ACDelco Series revs up on March 26, 2000 with the season opener at the USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL. The live television broadcast begins at 12PM EST on TNN.
