Hardeeville Motor Speedway to Host Fourth of July Extravaganza

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (June 22, 2001) - In honor of America's 225th birthday, Hardeeville Motor Speedway plans to have a party. The Hilton Head Island Honda Fourth of July Extravaganza will take place at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway the evening of July 4. The celebration will consist of a full lineup of racing, as well as a live musical concert, the return of professional motorcycle jumper Sky Lungston and a fireworks show following all of the activities.

The Mid-Summer Championship at Hardeeville Motor Speedway, presented by Hilton Head Island Honda, will feature all seven divisions, consisting of the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models, four classes of Legends Cars, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Open Wheel Modifieds, Xtreme Stock Cars and the Bandolero Cars. Following the races, Hilton Head Island Honda presents Michelle Murray, a country music singer from Hilton Head, S.C., who will perform in the infield of the track. Jumper Sky Lungston revisits Hardeeville Motor Speedway to take on the challenge of setting a new world record. After the conclusion of Murray's concert, there will be a fireworks presentation to close out the momentous holiday.

So far this season, tight points battles have spectators interested in seeing who will come out on top in their pursuit to capture the 2001 Hardeeville Motor Speedway track championships in their respective divisions. Almost every division has less than 100 points separating the top-two, with the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models being the lone exception. The chase for the championship will run down to the wire, when the season wraps up on September 1. Racing will not be the only headline show at the track on the Fourth of July.

Notable local artist Michelle Murray is one of the rising stars in country music. Murray will perform a variety of her hits, as well as usher in the National Anthem. During the past few years, Murray has shared the stage with some of country music's brightest stars including Tracy Byrd, Mark Wills, Montgomery Gentry, Ricochet, John Michael Montgomery, as well as comedians Bill Engvall and Cledus T. Judd. In 1998, Murray released her first album, 'When You Close Your Eyes' and has released several more songs for national syndication, with The Gator 104.9 giving local radio play.

Along with Murray, professional motorcycle jumper Sky Lungston, who performed at the track on June 16, returns to Hardeeville Motor Speedway to go for the world record of jumping over 17 cars within a limited distance. Lungston was a huge hit with the crowd of spectators gathered at the track, where he jumped over several racecars and concrete trucks. Lungston plans to return to set a new world record in front of the large group assembled for the Hilton Head Island Fourth of July Celebration.

Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. Qualifying will begin at 5:30 p.m., with feature races immediately following. Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles southeast of I-95 on Highway 17. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, with reduced rates for seniors, military and children. Children under five are admitted free. Information is available at www.hardeevillespeedway.com or by calling (843) 784-RACE. The action at Hardeeville Motor Speedway is spectacular!
