Donnie Moran Wins Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series Opener

GASTONIA, N.C. (March 13, 2004) -- Donnie Moran posted his second victory of the 2004 season by winning the City Chevrolet 50 at Carolina Speedway. The event was the season opener for the Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for Xtreme racing.

Moran, of Dresden, Ohio, led twice for a total of 21 of the race's 50 laps around the semi-banked 4/10-mile dirt oval. There were four lead changes.

Phil Gann, of Mayodan, NC, won the Gemini Auto Centers Hard Charger Award for gaining 10 positions during the race. Gann finished ninth after starting 19th.

Gann was one of several drivers that charged forward during the event. Second finisher Petey Ivey started eighth, Dan Breuer started seventh and finished third, David Smith finished fourth after starting ninth and Buckshot Miles took fifth place after starting 12th.

Moran's first win of the season came at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla. in February.

Shane Clanton posted the fastest time during qualifications with a lap of 15.864 seconds, good for 90.771 mph.
