Pearson Wins STACKER2 Xtreme Dirtcar Race at Lasalle

LASALLE, Ill (Aug. 2, 2004) -- Earl Pearson Jr. won the Illinois Valley Challenge 50 at LaSalle Speedway after taking the lead just before the halfway point of the race. The race was part of the Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the Xtreme organization. The tiremaker supplied Goodyear's X-300 compound for the teams at LaSalle.

"The Goodyear Eagles did their job once again," said Pearson. "A hard 50 laps and the tires look like they haven't even been raced."

Billy Drake finished second after leading eight laps. Shane Clanton finished third after starting 21st. Donnie Moran, who led the first 16 laps, was fourth and Steve Shaver took fifth.

The victory gave Pearson the lead in the championship chase. Jimmy Mars, who led the standings when the event started, finished 22nd. Pearson leapfrogged ahead of Mars and leads by 22 points. The win at LaSalle was the fourth of the season for Pearson.

Clanton won the Gemini Car Care Centers Hard Charger Award by gaining the most positions during the main event, advancing 18 spots. Denny Eckrich had the best time in time trials, zipping around the quarter-mile oval in just 12.693 seconds.
