Moran The Man During Northern Xtreme Memorial Weekend
AKRON, Ohio (June 1, 2004) -- Donnie Moran enjoyed a successful Memorial Weekend, winning two Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series races in as many days. The two wins slipped Moran into the top spot of the championship standings.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Xtreme organization, providing two tread compounds for each Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series event. Series officials and Goodyear engineers determine which compounds will be offered in advance of each race. Goodyear's X-200 and X-300 compounds were supplied at both Memorial Weekend events.
Moran's wins came in the Dunn/Hartman/Lutz/Tanner Memorial 50 at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio and in the Night The Stars Come Out 50 at KC Raceway in Alma, Ohio. Moran led 92 of the possible 100 laps in the feature races and collected the 75th and 76th wins of his career in the series. He also recorded the fastest lap during time trials for both events.
Moran had a decided home-track advantage, in terms of experience, at Muskingum. His father owns the track. Still, Matt Miller led the first eight laps of the weekend's first feature event. Miller eventually finished second, Billy Drake was third, Eddie Carrier Jr. took fourth and Doug Dodd came home fifth.
Dodd earned the Gemini Auto Care Centers Hard Charger Award by gaining 16 spots in the main event.
Moran led every lap at KC Raceway. John Mason finished second, Carrier took third, Miller was fourth and Drake finished fifth.
Dave Troutman, who finished seventh after starting 15th, won the Gemini Car Care Centers Hard Charger Award.
Moran finished the weekend with 792 points. Davey Johnson, who took 13th at KC Raceway, is second in the standings with 730.
