ATLANTA-After a successful test session at Gateway International Speedway, driver Joey Clanton and the Steve Dale Motorsports team feel ready and are excited about their chances at the final ASA event of the 2000 season.
"It's different from the other tracks we've raced on, but I really like it. It has two very long straightaways and two corners. It didn't take us long to get the car set up and running fast," commented Clanton. "The key for us in this last race is to qualify well and race the track well. If we do that, we can avoid worrying about the points situation all day."
Despite rainy weather cutting the test session short at the 1.25-mile oval, the team was enthused by how everything went.
"Joey has an uncanny ability to dissect a race track and find the quickest way around," said crew chief Gene Roberts. "We made some changes, adjusted on the car and are confident and ready to go."
Although the battle for the Pat Schauer Rookie of the Year title with Robbie Pyle is going down to the wire, it is business as usual at the Dale Motorsports shop. They are preparing the echosource83.com, Zaxby's, Pro-Shocks, Racing Radios, AirGas Pontiac just like they have for the other 19 ASA races.
"We feel that in the shop and on the track, we just need to keep doing what has gotten us to this point," concluded Roberts. "We have put together a good solid season and it doesn't make any sense to start changing how we do things at this late date."
