An SRO crowd was on hand for the third leg of the Gold Cup Series for the late models at Flat Rock. The Street Stock A & B divisions along with the Figure 8s were also on hand for the WWWW Radio/Thornapple Valley/Busch's Valuland Triple 50's.

Steve Bunge started on the pole and proceeded to lead the entire distance. Bunge's Allen Chevrolet held off a determined Rick Knowles by a car length. Bunge collected $1,000 for his second win of the season plus an additional $50 from MB Windows and Doors half way award and $250 in lap money. Chad Guinn received $100 from Trend Products for being the fast qualifier and Paul Hahn was the Volcano Fireworks Hard Charger worth $50. Mike Baas jumped into the lead for the 50 lap feature and led the first 10 laps before Ron Allen rocketed by him. The Lincoln Park, Michigan driver stretched out his lead and appeared well on his way to his sixth victory of the season when a broken trailing arm put his mount out of action on lap 46. John Rowloff inherited the lead and fought back challenges from Brian Norton to win his first feature of the season. In the B division Arnold Hall also won his first feature of 1998 taking the 15 lap feature over Joe Harbin. Henry Bradley won the C Main. The Figure 8 division ended the evening with their 50 lap feature. Ken Ahlgren bolted into the lead at the start from his outside pole position. He kept his black #69 in the lead until he and Fred Spaulding Jr. spun trying to avoid each other in the intersection on lap 23. Bob Studt took over the top spot while Ahlgren dropped back to sixth. Studt held the point until Dennis Whisman rocketed by him six laps later and never relinquished the lead. Parker Wade was a distance second. SUPER LATE MODELS FAST QUALIFIER: Chad Guinn, 12.156
