Florida Stock Car Champion pockets LaSalle loot in renegade DirtCar Racing Series.
(LaSalle, IL -- June 19, 2002) Jacksonville, FL stock car competitor Earl Pearson Jr. rocketed to another major national event win Wednesday night scoring his 2nd second career Renegade DirtCar Racing Series sanctioned victory. Just two nights earlier in Davenport, IA, Pearson had taken his Lucas Oil sponsored Ford Taurus to the pole qualifying award in United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) action before posting an eighth-place finish at Davenport Speedway.
But on Wednesday at the Izzo family owned LaSalle Speedway in Illinois, it was Pearson rolling to the front in the Dunn-Benson Ford backed late model team. Pearson, who cashed in at a little more than $10,000 for the win, prevailed in a hard-fought 50-lap battle with defending UDTRA Rick Eckert at LaSalle's high-banked quarter-mile oval. Pearson and Eckert thrilled the large crowd on hand over the final 10 laps while racing in lapped traffic trading the lead numerous times before Pearson crossed the stripe by less than a car length over Eckert. Steve Francis, who led the first 27 laps of the event before Eckert took the lead, wound up third.
The event was one of five which offers an added $100,000 bonus to any driver taking three of the five checkered flags. Pearson's winning run in the Lucas Oil / Dunn-Benson Ford Taurus came in a Rocket Chassis powered by Harold Eatmon Racing Engines. The talented Floridian with winning experience on both dirt and asphalt venues in the world of stock car racing now takes his efforts to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI this weekend.
