HANTZ GETS FIRST CRA SUPER SERIES WIN OF 2006 AT TOLEDO SPEEDWAY
Toledo, ON (August 14, 2006) -- Angola, Indiana native Scott Hantz came into Friday nights A.P. Racing Engines 100 Presented By Spray Power at Toledo Speedway as the CRA Super Series points leader even without a win in the first 13 events of the 2006 season. Hantz had built his points lead on consistent finishes including five second place finishes. Hantz finally got his first CRA Super Series win of the 2006 season for his Richard Poe Motorsports Team, taking the lead from JR Roahrig on lap 76 then holding off Eddie Van Meter to get the win by over 2 seconds.
"It's great to win here at Toledo Speedway, I like to come to this track and Scott usually runs well here. The fans have really taken to him and we are treated so well, this is a great place to get our first win of the 2006 season," remarked team owner Richard Poe after the race.
Showing his customary patience Hantz moved up by following first Eddie Van Meter for several laps, waiting for his opportunity to get past him as Van Meter's car began to get loose to take second place. He then set his sights on race leader JR Roahrig who started to fade after a shock broke causing him to have handling problems for the duration of the race. Van Meter finished second, Roahrig third just ahead of Johnny Beloit III who finished fourth and Chris Gabehart in fifth. Those three cars finished in a pack with less than six-tenths of a second separating Roahrig and Gabehart.
"I think if we had not had the shock problem we would have been in victory lane today." A dejected Roahrig stated. "But we still held on for third, and I am real happy to just finish. To finish third the way it was handling at the end is great."
With his third place finish, and Tommy St. John finishing 13th, Roahrig moves into second place in CRA Super Series points, 33 points behind Hantz and 4 points a head of St. John with only four points events left on the CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power 2006 schedule.
After a couple of early cautions the race went green for the last 75 laps, allowing some great racing throughout the field. Scott Baker made many daring moves to move up from 14th to seventh. Those feats earned him the Sweet Manufacturing "Sweet Move of the Race Award". Belott and Brian Campbell earned Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Awards. Campbell also earned the ISKY Racing Cams/Lane Automotive Hard Charger Award and the Racing Electronics Most Improved Award finishing 9th after starting 19th.
Bobby Parsley was the Appleton Rack & Pinion and Fatheadz.com Fast Qualifier Award winner, topping the field of 28 cars on hand. Danny Jackson was the CD-2 Rookie Of The Race Award winner, his eighth straight of the season. JR Roahrig was the RaceTrailerSales.com Halfway Award winner. Pat Anderson with the Dick Poe Motorsports Team was the Marvel Mystery Oil Mechanic Of The Race Award winner.
The next CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power event will be the Missouri 150 this Saturday, August 19th at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri. More information is available at www.craracing.net.
