Leading late model groups join forces in 2004; Sunoco Super Series and O'Reilly Southern All Stars combine for select "Super Tour" events.

(Salem-IN & Huntsville-AL) -- Officials from the CRA/ Sunoco Super Series and the O'Reilly Southern All Stars have announced the formation of a "Super Tour" for the 2004 racing season. These limited events will serve as their own mini-tour outside of the normally scheduled events for each series. The "Super Tour" will follow much of the pattern of the Patriot 200 recently held in Nashville. Over 60 cars were on hand for that event that featured the top stars from the North & South. The battle was decided by six inches with the North's Brian Hoppe edging out the South's Ricky Turner.

Industry insiders noted the great success of the event on and off the track, led by the outstanding co-operation between the officials and teams of the two leading template late model series.

The "Super Tour" will be a very limited number of events, with its own point standings, point fund, and champion. The collection of the top stars in the country will be made possible by the two series clearing their normal schedules for "Super Tour" events. The rules will be similar to those used in Nashville with a few refinements. The Super Tour events will feature longer distance races and larger purses to match the prestige of the events.

Officials of both series emphasize that this is not replacing their normal series schedules, rather, the "Super Tour" is another opportunity for teams to compete in high profile events, while ensuring the fans of being able to see all the top competitors in one place.

Officials are currently working on finalizing details of the "Super Tour". Announcements will soon follow concerning a series sponsor, rules and the schedule.
