NATHAN HARRON WINS FIRST HOWE CRA SPORTSMAN FEATURE
DeGraff, OH (July 29, 2007) -- North Lewisburg, Ohio resident Nathan Harron continued a tradition that CRA has had at previous events at Shady Bowl Speedway by picking up his first Howe CRA Sportsman feature win Saturday night in the Stapleton Automotive 75. The CRA Super Series had several first time winners at Shady Bowl Speedway events between 2001 and 2004, and now in Shady Bowl's first ever Howe CRA Sportsman event it had a first time winner also. The event was also the first ever Howe CRA Sportsman event ever held outside the state of Indiana.
Harron patiently worked his way up from his eighth place starting position to third were he got to watch early leader Steve Blair and current series points leader Billy Hutson put on a show battling for the lead during the first 27 laps of the event, making contact several times, and running side by side for several laps. Harron then worked his way past Hutson and Blair to get the lead on lap 27. Harron had to fight off Charlie Hanna, who had worked his way to second, on several restarts over the last part of the event, but managed to pull away to get the victory.
"My family has raced here for years, I have raced here about 10 or 15 times," an excited Harron stated. "Its great to win my first feature here. I have to thank my family and all my guys, I couldn't have done it with out them. This is a Howe Chassis, it's neat to get the win for them since they are sponsoring this series!"
Hanna got his second straight runner-up finish, but is still seeking his first series win.
"Tom, my car owner and I talked this week, all we wanted to do was finish and stay in the points," remarked Hanna. "I had never been here before, so I really didn't know what to expect, I really like this place now, it was a lot of fun racing here!"
Hutson maintained his series points lead with a third place finish, halfway through the 2007 season.
"We had the fastest car here, especially early in the race," remarked Hutson. "Blair came down on me a couple of times, I think the contact knocked the tow out some, the car just was never as fast after that, all I could do was hold on to get third."
Local late model racer Sam Heckman finished in fourth, tops among the local entries. Blair finished in fifth. Mike Miller made his first series start of the season and came in sixth. Rick Rinehart had a tough night, coming from the back twice after spinning to finish seventh. Rookie Tim Greene also had a tough night with a couple of spins and was involved in a front stretch wreck. Greene held on to finish in eighth. Rookie Eric Barkus finished in ninth with fellow rookie Gabe Cerny in tenth.
Zach Hulvey was the events Fast Qualifier. Rick Rinehart and Gabe Cerny were each victorious in 10 lap heat races. The next Howe CRA Sportsman event will be on Sunday, August 12th at Winchester Speedway. More information is available at www.craracing.net.
