Sunoco Super Series races twice at Baer Field Speedway in 2003.
Salem, Ind. (December 17, 2002) -- Sunoco Super Series officials and Baer Field Speedway officials announced today that the Sunoco Super Series will sanction two events in 2003 at Baer Field Speedway. The historic ½ mile racetrack, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, saw the Sunoco Super Series return in 2002 for two events after not having a series event in 2001. The speedway had held Sunoco Super Series events in both 1999 and 2000.
The Sunoco Super Series will sanction the 6th Annual International Truck & Engine Gold Cup 100 on Thursday, August 7th, 2003. This traditional weeknight event has become one of the biggest shows held annually at Baer Field Speedway. This past season South Bend, Indiana's J.R. Roahrig fought off Junior Hanley in a tough battle to take the win. Hanley had come from the back of the field to challenge for the lead after contact with Jeff Lane on lap 33, while battling for first place, which resulted in a yellow flag, placing both drivers to the tail of the field.
The Sunoco Super Series will return for the Second Annual Big Bash on Sunday, August 24th. The Sunoco Super Series will share top billing with the Auto Value Bumper To Bumper Sprints along with several support divisions for this huge racing event. This past season Canadian legend Junior Hanley came away with the win in the River City Trucking Equipment Sales 100 at the Big Bash. Hanley and veteran Michigan late model driver Fred Campbell put on a show battling for first place through out the second half of the event. It was a big win for Hanley, especially since his car owner Larry Zent calls Baer Field Speedway his home track.
"We are very pleased to have the Sunoco Super Series back at Baer Field Speedway again in 2003," remarked Tom Isch, Promoter of Baer Field Speedway. "These will be two of the biggest events on our 2003 schedule, I am confidant the Sunoco Super Series will put on a great show for our fans at both events!
