August 8th Baer Field Speedway Event Added To 2002 Sunoco Super Series Schedule

Salem, Ind. (July 15, 2002) -- Champion Racing Association officials announced today that an event has been added to the 2002 Sunoco Super Series schedule. The 5th Annual International Truck & Engine Corporation Gold Cup 100 on Thursday, August 8th at Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will be a sanctioned CRA Sunoco Super Series event. The event will start 24 cars and will pay $3,000 to win.

The Sunoco Super Series has been apart of four previous events at Baer Field Speedway beginning in 1998 at the inaugural International Truck & Engine Corporation Gold Cup 100. That event was a Sunoco Super Series verses the Iceman Super Cars shoot out that veteran late model driver Fred Campbell won. Baer Field Speedway was on the Sunoco Super Series 1999 schedule twice, Brian Ross collected a series win there on his way to winning the 1999 series championship. Local racing veteran Larry Zent won the 2nd Annual International Truck & Engine Corporation Gold Cup 100.

The Sunoco Super Series last race at Baer Field Speedway was held in August of 2000, local fan favorite Scott Hantz won the 3rd Annual International Truck & Engine Corporation Gold Cup 100 on his way to claiming the series Season Points Championship as well as Rookie Of The Year honors.

"We are really happy to be returning to Baer Field Speedway this year," commented CRA Sunoco Super Series Director Glenn Luckett. "The Fort Wayne area is a great market for our series sponsor Sunoco. This race will give our drivers a chance to get some good seat time prior to the series returning to Baer Field Speedway for the previous scheduled series event on Sunday, August 25th."

Baer Field Speedway will have an open practice on Wednesday, August 7th from 12Noon until dark. Friday, August 9th will be the rain date for the 5th Annual International Truck & Engine Corporation Gold Cup 100.
